Haven't posted in ages, but time to start again. I think I limited myself by making all posts about beads, so this is just MY blog. Period.

I just got my letter today, one of my beads was accepted to be included in a book being published, called Bead Review 2005, I am excited!

Oh, a lot to write! But I will have to summarize because otherwise I will get carpal trying to write this all out. I took a class with Andrea Guarino and Kimberly Affleck this weekend, and it was great! Too much information to take in at one time but I took anal notes so should have enough to go on to try to make the techniques my own over the next while. Lots of organic technique and one floral, which for a floral addict....very gratifying. :) To see someone else make florals! My version of what I learned is to the left..

Life gets in the way!

Life is a bit overwhelming right now. Thank goodness glass makes things better. Just kidding.

My DH has been hard at work finishing off the third stall of our garage as a workshop room for us. He is a very good guy and very talented with projects like this. New ventilation is imminent, as well as a safer fuel source arrangement. He has the wall up, two new electrical circuits in, and a new workshop light. Very cool. I will post pictures on lampworketc.com once it is all safe and cleaned up.

Some other new beads that are now on eBay -- these are very outerspacy and so substantial--they would make a very great, very bold necklace.

Pop Florals

A new set on eBay, I have another set of these is a blue/purple theme that I will be listing soon, these are so fun!

You know, people ask me quite regularly how to buy beads from me -- mostly its via my auctions, but if you see something in my image galleries you like, some of them can be rethemed. I don't say duplicated, because of course, you can never get one set to look exactly like another, in my opinion, but you can recapture the spirit!

Sculptural Flowers

On Sunday Oct 9, the talented Theresa Hess hosted another Treasure Valley Lampworkers gettogether, and she demoed creating sculptural flowers. Its quite fun and I know I'll be playing more with this technique, but here are a couple of samples below. Thanks Theresa, for sharing your home and knowledge, and it was fun to meet all of you who were there!

It's really interesting to see how different people work glass and see how different their beads can be. Its almost like fingerprints or snowflakes, other than the most basic of beads, people's style just really seems to come through.

These are an example of a fun, cartoony style I've done a few sets of recently. These colors, aqua, brown, lime, orange and pink seem to be very popular this fall with the young crowd :)

Gathering of Treasure Valley Lampworkers

Last Friday night I had the fun opportunity to get together with other lampworkers in the greater Boise (known as the Treasure Valley) area to meet and greet. I am terrible with remembering everyone's names, as there were a lot of new faces and names to me, but I had a lovely time. It was hosted by Theresa H and Laura and Bill R, Tami C, Kammie (sp?) and two other lovely ladies were there, one of whom was just starting to think about lampworking and made her first bead that night!

It was fun to see Theresa's studio and meet her cute dogs. She has a great setup and her boro spider vessels are about the coolest things you could ever hope to see. The theme for the night was beads incorporating pink. I had not had my torch setup for too much time before we all got together, so I made a couple of pink base abstract focals, including this one:

At long last, after our move to our new house, I am back. My lovely DH set up my torching area yesterday, and last night I unpacked my glass and tools and supplies and actually snuck in making a bead too, it was quite heavenly.

I am looking forward to getting back into a groove with it. I will be even happier when we get baseboard heat installed out there, as well as the natural gas and ventilation systems hooked up.

life, I fear, has gotten in the way. I go through up and down periods of time when I just don't have a lot of time to make beads. And now we are preparing for a move, so the glass studio is packed up. I'll be back at it with a new and improved studio area very soon, hopefully!

Wow, Christmas Eve is tomorrow. I can't believe how this year has flown by, compared to last year that crawled at a punishing snail's pace.

In any case, many custom orders in the works, and I am continuing my quiet time on eBay during the Holiday Season. Look for more auctions in January 2005!
